How to get alerts when AI answers mention your brand

By Łukasz Starosta · Updated November 1, 2026 · 6 min read

The short answer

You can't get a live alert the moment ChatGPT or Gemini mentions your brand, because there is no public feed of AI answers. What works is a scheduled check: ask the same buyer questions on a fixed schedule, compare each run with the last one, and read what changed. PromptScout runs these checks weekly, every 3 days or daily depending on the plan, and sends a weekly email report.

What you can and can't be alerted on today

AI assistants don't publish the answers they give. Each answer is written fresh for one person, and most of them are never seen by anyone else. So no tool can watch every answer that mentions you.

What a tool can do is ask the questions your buyers ask, on a schedule, and record the answers. That gives you a sample you can compare over time.

  • You can track: whether your brand is named in answers to the questions you choose.
  • You can track: whether an answer recommends you or only mentions you.
  • You can track: which competitors appear next to you, and which pages the answer cites.
  • You can't track: private conversations, or questions you never added.
  • You can't get: an instant message the second an answer changes. Answers are checked when a run happens.

Why a schedule works better than a live alert

Answers change from one run to the next even when nothing on your side changed. If every change sent you an alert, most alerts would be noise.

A schedule fixes that. You compare the same questions on the same engines, and you act on a change only when it holds for more than one run.

Real example: how often answers flip between runs

We looked at every pair of back-to-back runs in PromptScout's own monitoring: same question, same engine, one run after the other. This is how often the answer switched between naming the brand and not naming it.

Share of consecutive run pairs where the same prompt on the same engine flipped between mentioning the brand and not.

  • AI Overviews26.0%

275 flips across 1,058 consecutive pairs

  • ChatGPT19.0%

194 flips across 1,020 consecutive pairs

  • Gemini16.7%

170 flips across 1,020 consecutive pairs

  • Bing Copilot10.5%

31 flips across 294 consecutive pairs

  • Perplexity9.3%

of consecutive runs disagreed

Across all five engines, 17.3% of consecutive observation pairs changed brand-mention state. This panel does not control for intervening site or provider changes; the transition rate is not a significance threshold.

How scheduled monitoring works in PromptScout

On paid plans, PromptScout runs your questions on ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Bing Copilot. Starter checks 15 questions every week. Growth checks 30 questions every 3 days. Pro checks 40 questions every day.

After each run, the AI Visibility Changes panel on the dashboard shows what moved since the previous run: questions where your brand appeared or dropped out, and cited pages that were added or removed.

Once a week, PromptScout emails a report with your mentions and how they changed from the week before, your share of voice, the competitors that appeared, and the questions where a competitor showed up and you didn't. You can turn it on or off in Settings, under Notifications.

There is no separate email for each change today. Changes show up in the dashboard after every run and in the weekly report.

What to watch after each run

Three signals matter more than a single score.

  • Mentions: is your brand named in the answer at all? Watch the questions where you dropped out.
  • Recommendations: does the answer suggest your product, or only list it? PromptScout labels each answer Recommended or Not recommended.
  • Cited pages: which pages does the answer link to? If a competitor is recommended, the pages behind that answer show you what to fix or where to be listed.

A short checklist

  1. Write 10 to 15 questions the way a buyer would ask them. Skip your product's own words.
  2. Track them on every engine your buyers use, not just ChatGPT.
  3. Pick a schedule that matches how often you change your site. Weekly is enough for most teams.
  4. After each run, read what changed, not just the score.
  5. Act on a change only when it holds for two runs or more.
  6. When a competitor is recommended instead of you, open the pages that answer cites.
  7. Keep the weekly report on so the summary reaches you without logging in.

Common questions

Can I set up real-time alerts for brand mentions in AI answers?
Not in the sense of a live feed. AI assistants don't publish their answers, so no tool sees every mention. You can run the same questions on a schedule and compare each run with the last one. PromptScout does this weekly, every 3 days or daily, depending on the plan.
Does PromptScout email me when something changes?
PromptScout sends a weekly email report with your mentions, share of voice, competitors and the questions where a competitor appeared and you didn't. Between reports, the dashboard shows what changed after each run. There is no separate email for each change today.
How often should the checks run?
Weekly is enough for most teams. Run more often when you ship content or site changes every few days and want to see the effect sooner. One change between two runs is a signal to look at, not a trend.
Can I try it for free?
Yes. The free check at /get-started prepares buyer questions from your website and, after you sign up, shows free OpenAI answers with brand mentions and competitors. Scheduled monitoring is on paid plans.
